PLP breaks ground at PLP Smithywood, Sheffield for 343,000 sq ft speculative logistics facility

PLP  has appointed Sheffield based contractor J F Finnegan to construct a 343,000 sq ft logistics/distribution facility in Smithywood, Sheffield (“PLP Smithywood”). Construction has commenced with completion scheduled for August 2020.

PLP Smithywood is located at Smithywood Business Park in Sheffield adjacent to Junction 35 of the M1. It is a well-established commercial location and home to occupiers such as DPD, Cutting and Wear and Arthrex.

The building has been designed to enable carbon zero occupation by incorporating sustainable technologies such as roof mounted solar panels and multiple electric vehicle charging points. Roof and underground infrastructure upgrades enable scale up of solar panel and electric charging provision post occupation across the entire roof and car park. PLP is also making a significant investment in ecology net gain measures, improving the bio-diversity of the surrounding area.

J F Finnegan has a substantial portfolio in the Sheffield region and recently delivered Phase 1 on PLP Bessemer Park in Sheffield and schemes for Boeing UK, The Harworth Group, McLaren Automotive and The University of Sheffield.

J F Finnegan’s Head of Pre-Construction, Dawa Singh commented: “We take great pride in delivering our work with dedication and integrity, embracing sustainable initiatives, technologies and design principles to deliver warehousing solutions for occupiers seeking low carbon, low cost warehousing solutions. We are delighted to have secured a second project for PLP and look forward to working closely with PLP once again.”

PLP has appointed Commercial Property Partners (CPP) as leasing agents for the scheme.
