Planning application submitted for 1.8m sq ft logistics and industrial Scheme at Haydock Point
A planning application has been submitted by Peel Investments (North) Limited for Haydock Point, a high-quality logistics park east of Haydock, St Helens which will be developed by PLP.
The outline application seeks planning permission for the 1.8m sq ft scheme with detailed access of a new junction on the A580 East Lancashire Road. The site has the potential to accommodate a single unit of up to 1 million sq ft.
Haydock Point responds to an identified shortage of suitable sites for large scale employment development in St Helens. The site immediately adjoins Junction 23 of the M6, providing excellent connections to the strategic road network, the regional motorway network, major urban centres and facilities in the North West including the Port of Liverpool and two international airports.
Neil Dickinson, Chief Investment Officer of PLP said “Haydock Point is an oven-ready site for large scale occupiers. The location of the site at Junction 23, close to markets and with available labour, provides the perfect conditions for a premium logistics and industrial park.”
Haydock Point represents a £141m investment in St Helens that will create in the region of 2,500 jobs on site once the development is complete, contributing £80m annual GVA to the local economy and £3.5m annual business rates revenue.
Jobs created will be in a range of professions and skillsets. A Local Employment Strategy has been drawn up to maximise the access to employment opportunities for local people and help improve local economic activity and employment rates.
A decision is anticipated on the outline planning application by July 2017.
